My name is Cathryn Miller. I make things. I have made things since I was old enough to handle materials. I got better at making things when I was old enough to handle tools as well. Although what I make has changed over the years, the same principles of design and diligence always apply.
I love squares, so a lot of what I make is square or contains squares. I also love words, so much of what I make is text-related in some way.
My current practice focuses on paper, both as a medium and a substrate. Paper is often considered transient and unimportant in Western culture. My use of it is as a material is intentional.
Most of my recent works are an exploration of either time/duration or memory storage/ retrieval, or both.
I write a weekly blog post about what I am doing and sometimes offer free downloadable files and instructions so that readers can make a project, usually a book or a paper toy.
